Miaogaotai

Miaogaotai, also known as Miaogaofeng and Tianzhufeng, is a major landscape in the Xuedou Mountain scenic area. Although the altitude is only 396 meters, it is backed by a large mountain, protrudes in the middle, has three sides of cliffs and faces a deep abyss below. The terrain is very precipitous. In a narrow sense, Miaogaotai refers to a platform with an area of about 350 square meters. Standing at the forefront of the platform, one can overlook the natural scenery of Tingxia Lake. Around Miaogaotai, there are dense ancient trees and bamboos blocking the sun. The cool breeze is blowing constantly, making it an ideal summer resort. The building behind Miaogaotai is a private villa built in 1927. Looking up, a horizontal plaque with black characters on a white background reading ‘Miaogaotai’ is hung in the middle of the second floor. The entire villa has two floors. There are a total of six bungalows on the upper and lower floors, connected by a western-style platform. The total construction area is 436 square meters. Entering the gate, there is a patio in the middle of the first floor, and one bungalow on each side. The cement corridor on the second floor is connected to the balcony. In the middle is the reception room. The east side is the bedroom and the west side is the study. In the middle of the patio of the villa, there is a stone pagoda preserved. It is the relic pagoda of Shiqi Zen Master, the abbot of Xuedou Temple in the early Qing Dynasty. In 1651, the eighth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, Shiqi Zen Master rebuilt Xuedou Temple and reopened the Buddha’s light of Xuedou Temple. After his death, later generations built this stone pagoda in memory of his merits in 1726, the fourth year of Yongzheng.
