He Miji Temple is located on Liuting Island within the picturesque and tranquil Yuehu Scenic Area in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. To the east lies the Lay Buddhist Forest, to the south is Liuting Street, and the northwest is encircled by Yuehu Lake. ‘When young, I left home; now old, I come back, The local accent remains the same, but my hair has turned grey. Children meet me and do not know who I am; They laugh and ask where I come from.’ This poem, ‘A Casual Return to My Hometown,’ vividly captures the poignant emotions of an elder returning to his homeland after a long absence, making it a beloved classic that is still recited to this day.

He Zhizhang once served as an official in Mingzhou and was highly revered by the people. There were once several sites in Ningbo commemorating He Zhizhang, but now only the He Miji Temple on Liuting in Yuehu remains.

Opening hours: The temple is closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-11:30 and 13:30-16:30.
