Danmenshan Island

Danmenshan Island is an uninhabited island in the southeast of Xiangshan County, Ningbo City. On November 8, 2011, it became China’s first uninhabited island with clear usage rights. Danmenshan Island is located in the nearby sea area in the middle of Xiangshan Peninsula. Opposite the island is Danmen Village. Danmenshan Island has five peaks. Whenever the sun rises in the east, the sun’s shadow and the island’s shadow are reflected in the water, forming the character ‘dan’, hence the name Danmenshan Island. Danmenshan Island is 1.82 kilometers long, 0.52 kilometers wide, and has an area of about 1 square kilometer. The vegetation on the island is mainly grassland, with a small amount of sparse coniferous forest. There is also a rare Danxia landform on the island. In the newly opened tourist routes in Xiangshan, there is an island tour. Danmenshan is one of the stops. In the 1960s and 1970s, there were shepherds living on the island who made a living by herding sheep. So far, there are still wild flocks on the island for hunting. There are necessary facilities such as hotels and restaurants on the island for tourists to play, and there are also management personnel specially responsible for protecting the island. The island is surrounded by densely distributed reefs and clusters of conches. There is also a beautiful red beach. You can go there by yacht from Songlanshan, or you can hire a fishing boat in Dongdan Village of Danmen to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the island. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
