The residence of Dafudi is so named because it was inscribed with ‘Dafudi’ by Zuo Zongtang, a military important official and governor of Jiangsu and Zhejiang during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. The residence of Dafudi was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The house is in a三合院 style and consists of a gate tower, a courtyard, a main hall and two side rooms. It covers an area of about 500 square meters. Dafudi is located in a secluded pebble alley running east-west on Shijing Mountain Road. There is a gate tower at each end of the alley. When the two gate towers are closed, the courtyard of Dafudi is very safe and has the characteristic of being quiet in the midst of hustle and bustle. The first gate tower is a double-eaved pavilion style. The door hairpin is engraved with the four characters ‘Shuang Yi Nan Xun’. On the ceremonial gate, there is a couplet inscribed with ‘Xiu Yi Ta Feng embraces the rising sun, Lan Xie Hui Xiang Kai Lu Fu’. On the left and right horse-head walls, there are large characters of ‘Rui Zhao Lu Ming’ in plaster sculpture. The courtyard is paved with rectangular stone slabs in staggered joints. It is flat, clean and bright. The whole courtyard is magnificent and grand. Opening hours: For specific opening hours, please consult the scenic spot.
