Baotuo Zen Temple

Baotuo Zen Temple is situated atop the Zhaobao Mountain, covering an area of 360 square meters with an additional 27 monks’ quarters. The temple was originally constructed between 847 and 859 AD (during the Tang Dynasty) and was originally located in the Zizhu Forest on Meicen Mountain (now Putuo Mountain). In 1557 (the thirty-sixth year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty), it was relocated to its current site.

The temple complex is divided into the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Hall of Arhats, and the Yuantong Bao Hall, and also includes a bell tower and monks’ quarters.
