Tingxia Lake is a large reservoir. After the completion of the dam in 1983, scenic spots such as Gaoba of Pinghu Lake, Nine Bends of Huixi River, Catfish Lying in the Waves, Golden Tortoise Probing the Water, and Spring Shade of Fang Island were developed successively. Standing on the dam which is 76 meters high and 317 meters long, one can have a panoramic view of the eight bends of the Shanyuan River and the beautiful scenery of Gao’ao.
The high ridges of Dahui and Xiaohui in the center of the lake are named after Huang Chao, the leader of the peasant uprising in the late Tang Dynasty, led his troops through here. Gao Yuanzhi of the Song Dynasty once wrote a beautiful sentence: ‘Leaving Xiaohui from Dahui, after passing all the peaks which are green. Cold clouds embrace secluded rocks, and waterfalls pour down from the clouds.’ The original historical sites now submerged by the lake water include Shanyuan Academy, Baiyun Study House and the temple of Bodhisattva Weituo which is larger in scale than Xuedou Temple.
Tourists can directly participate in tourism projects here such as camping outdoors, fishing in the curved lake, tasting fruits in the orchard, and boating on the waves. The fruit base in the lake area has mouthwatering Fenghua peaches, purplish-red and sweet Cixi bayberries, delicious and crisp Nanyang fragrant pears, and lakeside tangerines with sweet fragrance. In the aquaculture water area, one can catch California carp, tilapia, eel, river shrimp, etc. at any time, allowing you to taste fresh food in all seasons. Opening hours: 07:30 – 17:30 from January 1st to December 31st.
