Qingming Bridge

Qingming Bridge is a single-arch stone arch bridge, with a total length of 43.2 meters and a span of 13.1 meters, entirely constructed from granite. Due to the difference in elevation on both banks, the stone steps are uneven, with 46 steps on the east side and 43 on the west side.
The arch is a common segmented parallel style in Jiangnan, consisting of 11 sections. On both sides of the arch, there are inscriptions on the keystones. One stands from the Xianfeng period, detailing the bridge’s history and name change; the other from the Tongzhi period, recounting the reconstruction of Qingming Bridge.

The bridge railing is unadorned, with two望柱on each side, giving it a very simple and ancient appearance. In 1983, two Qing Dynasty stone tablets were discovered on the east and west sides of the bridge, one written by Zou Yigui, erected in the 31st year of Qianlong’s reign; the other erected in the ninth month of the ninth year of Tongzhi’s reign.
