Banyuan Garden

Banyuan, also known as the Lu’s Ban Garden, covers an area of 1130 square meters and is located at No. 60 Baita East Road. It was built by Lu Jiemi, a native of Anhui and a Taotai during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty, and was named ‘Banyuan’. Due to its location north of the Shi’s Ban Garden in Cangmi Alley, it is commonly referred to as ‘North Ban Garden’. In 1982, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Suzhou City, and was opened to the public in 1992. The garden is situated to the east of the residence, with a central pond surrounded by a boat hall, a waterside pavilion, a winding corridor, and a half-pavilion, with many buildings featuring the characteristic of ‘half’. In the northeastern part of the garden stands a two-and-a-half-story double-eave pavilion, which is unique to Suzhou gardens. The garden is planted with white-barked pines, boxwoods, wisterias, and other flowering plants and trees. It is open from January 1st to December 31st, from 10:00 to 22:00 every day.
