Baoshan Temple, originally built in the sixth year of the Zhengde period during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1511), has a history of 500 years. After renovation, the temple complex covers an area of approximately 12,000 square meters, making it the largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. The religious core area occupies 20 acres and includes structures such as the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Mahavira Hall, Guanyin Hall, Medicine Buddha Hall, Jialan Hall, Ancestral Hall, Buddha Hall, Sutras Library, Dharma Hall, Abbot’s Chamber, Refectory, and Monks’ Quarters. The mountain gate and square occupy 16 acres, featuring structures like the mountain gate, east and west side gates, and covered corridors (totaling 471 meters in length). Additionally, a supporting garden covering 30 acres is planned to be built, which will include towers, pavilions, buildings, platforms, waterside pavilions, ponds, and archways, all constructed with African rosewood.
