The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo was first constructed in 1137, with its construction continuing until the 15th century. The exterior of the church still features Romanesque architecture and a Greek cross. Upon entering the church and looking up, one can admire the frescoes on the dome painted by Giovanbattista. Inside, there is also a mausoleum dedicated to the great composer Gaetano Donizetti. The church is open all year round from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM; and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Accessibility services are not provided, and there is no wheelchair access.
