Bijixiang

Bijixiang is located by the ancient Grand Canal in Changzhou. It is the site of the ancient Pilin Post Station and was once very prosperous. In ancient times, ‘Bijiliang Lanterns’ was a scenic spot in Changzhou. Now, this alley of less than 100 meters is no longer prosperous. Its reputation surpasses the scenery. The shops in the alley still sell combs. On the ancient Grand Canal in front of Bijixiang, ships come and go. At the northwest end, there is the Huaide Bridge spanning the river. Beside the bridgehead is the Huanghua Pavilion. In the pavilion stands the Pilin Post Station stele written by a modern calligrapher. Opposite the memorial archway on the other side of the Huanghua Pavilion are the three characters ‘Big Wharf’. When Emperor Qianlong made his southern inspection tour, he disembarked and entered the city from the big wharf. Walking southeast along Bijixiang, passing the memorial archway of ‘Bijiliang Lanterns’, and walking to the end, one can see the Wenheng Bridge which was built in the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. In addition, Bijixiang is also a midway boarding and disembarking point for the water tour of the ancient Grand Canal in Changzhou. Taking a boat tour of the ancient Grand Canal requires an additional fee. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
