China Tongli Film and Television Production Base

Tongli Town boasts a unique water town scenery and has preserved a large number of intact Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. Over the past decade, it has not only attracted millions of domestic and international tourists but also a large number of film and television production crews. The film and television production base refers to a stone tablet near the Tuisisi Garden and the stone carvings laid on the ground. The inscriptions on the stone carvings record the films and TV dramas shot in Tongli. In 1983, the crew of ‘Baoshi Father and Son’ entered Tongli, and after shooting, it was premiered in Suzhou. The simple town, quiet deep houses, and long stone slab roads left a deep impression on many viewers. Since then, Tongli Town has been inseparable from the film industry. In 1986, ‘Words on the Canal’ filmed an entire episode in Tongli, even using boats and helicopters during the shooting. ‘Words on the Canal’ spread the reputation of Tongli Town across the country, and film and television production crews came in droves. The garden where Daiyu buried flowers in ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’, the small building where Lin Chong drank in ‘Lin Chong’, the stern Gao Mansion in ‘Family Spring and Autumn’, and Dong’s house in ‘Dong Xiaowan’ can all be found in Tongli. In 1990, the overseas crew of ‘The Story of Qianlong’ came to Suzhou and found it an ideal place for filming. They immediately decided to change their plan to build scenes and move all the equipment to Tongli, filming for a full hundred days in Tongli. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day, and the specific business status is subject to the actual opening conditions of the day.
