Chuansha Ancient Town boasts a history of over a thousand years since its formation, more than four hundred years of city construction, and two hundred years since its establishment as a county. It still retains the complete layout of a square-shaped city surrounded by moats. Chuansha was once renowned as the ‘Home of Construction’ across the nation, earning the accolade of ‘a trowel travels the world’. The town features a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles in structures such as the former residence of Tao Guisong, Yi De Hall, Yi Dao Hall, and Ding’s Garden. Many notable figures have emerged from Chuansha, including Huang Yanpei, literary scholar Hu Shi, and builder Yang Sisheng, who made significant contributions to China’s revolution and construction. Chuansha is rich in intangible cultural heritage, with Chuansha Opera, Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo Music, and Pudong Storytelling listed as national protection projects. The town is open all year round with full-day access; however, specific business hours are subject to the day’s operational status.
