Ci Cheng Confucius Temple

Ci Cheng Confucius Temple is located at No. 55, Zangcang East Road, Ci Cheng Town, Jiangbei District. It was built during the Qingli years of the Song Dynasty and was destroyed by the Jurchens in the fourth year of the Jianyan era. It was reconstructed in the twelfth year of the Shaoxing era, and has been renovated through the dynasties. In the eleventh year of the Xianmo era, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom army entered the city and destroyed the Minglun Hall, which was reconstructed in the eighth year of the Tongzhi era. In the eighteenth year of the Guangxu era, the Tiyun Pavilion and six fasting rooms were rebuilt. The current structure is a late Qing Dynasty building, which, according to the Qing Ministry of Works measurement in the eighteenth year of the Guangxu era, covers an area of 18.56 acres, with a total of 137 rooms including temples and pavilions, featuring a complete layout and grand momentum. The outer wall is adorned with the four large characters ‘Gongqiang Wanren’ (Imperial Wall of Ten Thousand Feet), making it one of the well-preserved Confucius temples in the country.
