The Citadel is vast and imposing, with walls standing 2 meters high, and is divided into an inner and outer city
Rulers from various dynasties have left their marks here, and historical sites such as the ancient aqueducts, the Well of Yusuf, and the National Military Museum are worth visiting
A highlight of the Citadel is the green lawn in front of it; upon entering, visitors can stroll through the courtyard, admiring the exquisite doors and windows and the finely carved bathrooms
One can then proceed to the mosque to view the resplendent interior, feeling the solemnity and grandeur
Outside the mosque, there is a small pavilion that serves as an excellent vantage point, offering panoramic views of Cairo
Within the Citadel, numerous signs direct visitors to other important facilities, as well as cafes and Italian restaurants catering specifically to tourists
A visit to the Military Museum is also possible; originally part of the royal palace, it was later converted into a military museum displaying military uniforms, medals, and other military artifacts
Strolling through the garden area is recommended as well; the Citadel’s garden itself is a museum, with scattered columns and other remnants on the lawn serving as exhibits
If time permits, climbing the tower for a scenic view is a must
This early 16th-century Ottoman structure boasts exquisite minarets, intricately carved pulpits, painted scales, and murals inside the tombs, all of which are masterpieces worth savoring
The Citadel is open all year round from 08:00 to 17:00
