Damen Island

Damen Island has an area of nearly 29 square kilometers. Because the island is shaped like two mountains facing each other like a door, it is called ‘Damen Island’. On Damen Island, the representative landscape of Damen scenic area – Guiyan, namely the rosy clouds of the divine turtle, can be seen from many places. The Guiyan Peak is 335 meters above sea level. The Guiyan on the peak is composed of two huge rocks. It squats in the northwest and faces southeast. It is very much like a divine turtle crawling forward slowly. When it crawls to the top of the peak, it is exactly when the sun is rising and the rosy clouds fill the sky, thus forming this magnificent landscape of ‘rosy clouds of the divine turtle’. Guiyan Peak is a relatively high mountain among the Dongtou Archipelago. The turtle on the peak is particularly conspicuous and has become a navigation mark for passing ships. It is known as the ‘sacred site in the East China Sea’. About 1 kilometer northeast of Guiyan, there is a beacon tower, and the ruins still exist. As early as the Jianyan period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127 – 1130 AD), a military camp was built here, and a beacon tower was set up to maintain military contact with various places along the coast of Wenzhou. The Guanyin Reef Beach on the southeast side of the island is 650 meters wide and 450 meters long, with an area of about 0.3 square kilometers. This beach has clear seawater and fine and pure sand. It is a good place for swimming and beach sports. The specific opening hours and business status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
