Datian Slope Deer Nature Reserve

Located 20 kilometers away from the city center of Dongfang, the Datian Slope Deer Nature Reserve spans an area of 2,000 hectares and is home to over 400 graceful slope deer. These deer, with their elegant physiques resembling that of sika deer, are distinguished by their forward-curving antlers, making them a sight to behold.

Slope deer are known for their agility in running and jumping, capable of leaping over ditches up to 5 meters wide when startled. They prefer to roam the shrub-covered hillsides in their daily activities. These deer possess keen senses of sight, hearing, and smell. Male deer use vocalizations to find mates, while females call their fawns with sounds that can be heard even a kilometer apart.

Ascending the observation tower within the reserve offers a panoramic view of the deer frolicking. The slope deer are attracted to the color red, hence they tend to emerge in groups during the early morning and late afternoon when the sun’s rays cast a reddish hue. At these times, visitors to the tower may occasionally spot other wild animals as well. The opening hours and operational status are subject to the day’s availability.
