The fossilized wood forest in Xinchang was built in March 1999. Here, there are more than 50 unique fossilized woods in Xinchang. The fossilized wood is more than 100 million years old, so it is also known as the ‘longevity stone’. There is a character ‘Shou’ (longevity) on the stone wall. It is 15 meters high and 11 meters wide and is written by the famous calligrapher Shen Peng. The predecessor of fossilized wood was pine, cypress, fir, ginkgo, birch and other trees that grew in the primeval forest more than 100 million years ago. Due to crustal changes, the logs were deeply buried underground. Under the long-term action of silicon dioxide solution, the plant fibers were replaced and filled by precipitated silicon dioxide, forming wood-shaped siliceous rocks. So it is also called silicified wood. These vivid prehistoric fossils reproduce the bodies and textures of that year. It is an important material for studying the ancient climate, crustal changes and paleontological history of East China. It has high ornamental and research value and is extremely precious. Some of them are slim and graceful, and some are rough and majestic; some are as black as coal, and some are as yellow as beeswax; some still have bark and worm scar marks. Some have been artificially polished to be as precious as jade. Some were buried underground and turned into fossils after being struck by lightning and burned. Some were impacted by water flow. So far, there are still sands and stones embedded in the tree crevices. After stones and big trees have experienced similar fates, they are now integrated together… There are various kinds and a wide variety. Opening hours: Open all year round from 06:00 to 17:00.
