The Gengliao Ancient Trail is one of the five ancient paths that connected Nangang to Shenkeng and Shiding in the early years, and it is one of the most well-preserved and still in use today. This trail is not only a convenient path leading to the Boar Cave and TuKu Mountain, but also a century-old road for visiting the remains of ancient houses. Nowadays, the trail has been paved with granite steps, yet the narrow road condition still reflects the ancient and rugged charm of the original path. Some sections with un-paved cobblestones are dotted with daily blooming spring flowers, which further highlight the path’s simple and ancient atmosphere. The latter part of the Gengliao Ancient Trail connects with the Laoliao Ancient Trail, which was once a mountainous tea-producing area with numerous tea shops. The trail was historically a transportation and production site for camphor.
