This pentagonal fortress was built by workers of the Dutch East India Company in the 1660s and 1670s
Originally the official residence of the governor of the Dutch East India Company, it is now the William Fehr Art Collection, the regional headquarters of the South African National Defence Force in the Western Cape, and a military museum
Inside, the cells where prisoners were once held are still preserved
