He Garden, constructed in the 33rd year of the Guangxu Emperor’s reign (1907 AD), was named after Yu Yue’s inscription ‘Xiehe Thatched Cottage’. The garden, covering an area of 3134 square meters, is compact, elegant, and simple.

The garden’s entrance faces south, with a porch of five rooms. Beyond the porch, there is a long corridor in the northeast corner that runs from south to north, traversing the entire garden. To the west of the corridor are the Four-Sided Hall and the Main Hall. Between the two halls lies a pond, surrounded by rock formations and planted with flowers and trees such as forsythia, gardenia, lilac, begonia, osmanthus, oleander, crape myrtle, and wintersweet, as well as evergreen trees like pine and cypress, forming the garden’s main scenic courtyard.
