Hongji Bridge

Nanxun has long had the saying of ‘one bridge every ten steps’. During the heyday of bridges in the Tongzhi period, there were as many as 107 bridges in Nanxun Town. There are also dozens of existing bridges. Among them, the three ancient bridges in Nanxun, namely Guanghui Bridge, Tongjin Bridge and Hongji Bridge, are particularly famous. Hongji Bridge is a single-arch stone arch bridge. It is 28 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, 7.2 meters high, and there are 33 steps on each side. The year of construction is unknown. However, during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1619), the ‘Huzhou Prefecture Annals’ already had records about this bridge. Hongji Bridge has a common name called the New Bridge. This is because during the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, this bridge was once blown up. After restoration, people casually called this bridge the New Bridge. Under the bridge is an ancient canal wharf. There are stone tables and chairs on the wharf, which were prepared for people waiting for ships in the past. The semicircular stone arch bridge spans over the canal and combines with the reflection in the water to form a full moon. The mottled bluish-gray bridge body is like a remnant dream in the early morning. Whether you pass by on the bridge or under the bridge, does this small bridge also arouse your homesickness? Open all year round and all day. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
