Last week, I embarked on a journey to Guigang, Guangxi, unlocking a new city within China. At the Guigang City Museum, I delved into the city’s rich historical and cultural heritage. At the Dadi Ke Pingtian Mountain Forest Campground, I experienced the ‘Camping Paradise, Leisurely Guigang.’ I strolled through the cultural and creative park in the Mountain Side Tourism Area and took a boat tour of the Dafeng Gorge Scenic Area, feeling as if I was in a landscape poem and painting amidst the misty surroundings of the Beimdi Mountain.
Day 1: Arrival in Guigang – Check-in at Victoria Hotel
I departed from Shanghai and flew to Nanning, Guangxi, then took a car to Guigang, where I checked into the Victoria Hotel. With its simple European design style, I enjoyed Guigang’s specialty dishes at the hotel’s restaurant for dinner.
Day 2: Guigang City Museum – Dadi Ke Pingtian Mountain Forest Campground – Mountain Side Tourism Area – Dafeng Gorge Scenic Area – Pingnan Xiongjing Eco Hotel
The museum’s collection primarily consists of cultural relics unearthed from various parts of the city, with a focus on artifacts from Han Dynasty tombs, featuring Han Dynasty pottery and bronze ware. The museum houses 1910 sets of artifacts, totaling 4672 actual pieces. The Dadi Ke Pingtian Mountain Forest Campground is located within the Pingtian Mountain National Forest Park, offering a tranquil and serene forest setting with clear streams, and featuring mountain sports activities, accommodation in tents and rooms, a bar, and a coffee shop, as well as trendy sports like off-road ATVs, rock climbing, and frisbee.
After lunch at a restaurant in the Mountain Side Tourism Area, I took a leisurely walk to the cultural and creative park. The red brick houses exude the characteristics of Guigang, with themes such as tea art, photography, sculpture, music, and fine arts, making the ancient architecture even more distinctive. The Dafeng Gorge Scenic Area is the largest and longest canyon in Guangxi, surrounded by high mountains, with overlapping peaks stretching for hundreds of miles. Known for its ‘high mountains, deep valleys, many shoals, and treacherous water currents,’ it is often referred to as the ‘Little Three Gorges of Guangxi.’
Pingnan Xiongjing Eco Hotel is known as the ‘Tiger Hotel’ in Guangxi. The rooms are very comfortable, and during breakfast, you can see tigers walking outside the glass windows. It’s an interesting experience to have breakfast with tigers nearby.
Day 3: Beimdi Mountain Tourism Area – Departure
The Beimdi Mountain Tourism Area is a national AAAA-level scenic spot, comparable to Zhangjiajie. However, it was lightly raining the day I visited, with dense fog and low visibility. Nevertheless, I was able to appreciate its beauty in a different light, as if I was in a fairyland, like an ink painting landscape. The main attractions include Beimdi Peaks, Rhododendron Sea, Beimdi Overlook, Stone Bridge Murals, Langchong Stone Forest, Beimdi Buddha Light, Ten Miles Gallery, Beimdi Blessing Garden, and Siling Waterfall. Standing at a high point and looking out, the highest peak in Guigang City – ‘Yapo Lian Sun’ at an altitude of 1581 meters – stands majestically before you.
If you haven’t planned your trip for this year, consider visiting Guigang, Guangxi, to experience the charm of ink painting landscapes.
