Inaugural ‘Shanghai Summer’ International Consumption Season

The inaugural ‘Shanghai Summer’ International Consumption Season is set to commence on July 6th and will run through the second weekend of October. Shanghai will introduce a series of commercial, tourism, cultural, and sports activities under the ‘7+58+X’ model, aiming to provide a diverse range of consumer scenarios for domestic and international consumers and to stimulate the potential for ‘big consumption’. Zhu Min, the director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, announced that preparations are complete for seven benchmark events with strong international appeal, including the ‘Pinnacle of the Pyramids: Great Exhibition of Ancient Egyptian Civilization’, the first Shanghai International Cruise Festival, City Walk Pro Shanghai City Experience Season, the first Shanghai International Light and Shadow Festival, and the first Shanghai International Electronic Music Festival, five of which are being launched for the first time this year. Additionally, 58 key activities, such as the CLE Shanghai International Creative Quality Life Festival, the ‘Eternal Notre Dame’ exhibition, and ‘Encountering the European Cup in Shanghai’—the 158 Magic Capital’s Charming View of the World Football event, will be rolled out progressively. To create an international friendly consumption environment that is welcoming to both locals and visitors, Shanghai is implementing a batch of service measures aimed at meeting the needs of foreign individuals in the city. A bilingual guide for luggage storage in key commercial areas has been launched, with the goal of reaching 500 luggage storage service points across the city’s commercial sector by the end of July, continuously improving the coverage rate of luggage storage in key commercial areas and the corresponding bilingual signage coverage rate. Jing Ying, a first-level inspector of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, stated that to provide more convenient services for foreign individuals, Shanghai has launched an English version of the Shanghai International Service Portal and three social media accounts, offering guidance on more than 150 service items related to business, life, talent, and study abroad services. Moreover, a ‘Service Manual for Foreigners in Shanghai’ has been compiled, and the ‘Shanghai Information Weekly’ has been introduced to enhance the perception of foreign individuals. On June 29th, a one-stop comprehensive service center for foreign individuals was launched at Terminal 2 of Pudong Airport, focusing on four major functional modules: payment, culture and tourism, communication, and transportation, to provide a package of convenient services for international inbound travelers. Open from 7/6 to 10/13, all day.
