Rooted in Dunhuang culture, the museum engages in academic research, exhibitions, collections, publications, education, digital transformation, and public projects concerning contemporary art, presenting the rich and diverse world of human art and thought. It aims to explore the historical logic of modern Chinese art and the contemporary translation of traditional culture within the intellectual context that connects the classical and the modern, establishing an international platform for artistic practice and theoretical research based in China with an open perspective. Dunhuang is not a static concept but a dynamic process that is constantly evolving. It encompasses culture, art, politics, history, customs, beliefs, nature, and even different civilizations, making it a mirror reflecting the world of human life.
The museum, with Dunhuang as its imagery and the cultural arts of Dunhuang as its foundation, hopes to create a visual field for dialogue between art and contemporary life while inheriting the Eastern essence of Chinese culture. Relying on local resources and residency projects in Dunhuang, the museum also aims to become a gateway connecting the Dunhuang site with urban art spaces, breaking down barriers between regions, ancient and modern times, and knowledge, and forming an art practice and research platform that联动s Shanghai, Dunhuang, and the global art community. The museum is open from 11/11 to 05/31, 10:00-18:00.
