Matterhorn: The Iconic Peak of the Alps

The Matterhorn stands at an elevation of 4,478 meters, with its distinctive triangular shape serving as a symbol of the Alps. Particularly at sunrise and sunset, the perennially snow-covered mountain reflects a metallic glow that is truly captivating. The Matterhorn is one of the last major peaks in the Alps to be conquered due to its extremely steep and perilous terrain, making it a high-difficulty challenge for many mountaineers. Even today, only professional climbers with proper equipment and accompanied by experienced guides stand a chance of reaching the summit. The town of Zermatt, at the foot of the Matterhorn, is an excellent vantage point for admiring the peak, with the Matter Vispa River in the center of the town offering the best spot to witness the Matterhorn’s dawn beauty. Standing by the river, looking along the open watercourse, the absence of rooftops and tree branches reveals the majestic mountain range in all its grandeur. The Klein Matterhorn, adjacent to the Matterhorn, features a viewing platform at an altitude of 3,883 meters on its rugged summit, known as the ‘Matterhorn Glacier Paradise’. From here, visitors can enjoy an up-close view of the Matterhorn and the surrounding Alpine mountain ranges, with the magnificent glaciers and continuous snow-capped peaks all visible at once.
