Built along the riverbank, the Mercedes-Benz Arena stands proudly at the heart of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo site, adjacent to the Expo Axis and the China Pavilion. The entire structure, with its light and agile, flying saucer-like unique shape, emerges as a ‘shell of the art sea’, dazzling and beautiful. The center boasts a main venue with a capacity of 18,000 seats, as well as a music club, cinema, ice rink, restaurants, and retail areas. During the World Expo, it will host various large-scale performances and activities to meet the needs of large-scale artistic performances at the Expo. At the same time, it has fully considered the subsequent use and sustainable development needs after the World Expo, in line with Shanghai’s positioning as an ‘international cultural metropolis’. The Mercedes-Benz Arena is now open to the public for a long term, hosting irregularly large-scale celebrations and concerts, and is also capable of hosting basketball games, ice performances, and even ice hockey matches. Renowned artists such as Faye Wong, the Asian supergroup S.H.E, and American star Taylor Swift have all held concerts here. The large venue and advanced, futuristic live effects have made these events unforgettable for fans. The opening hours for the commercial area are from 10:00 to 22:00; the opening hours for the venue are determined based on the time of performances or activities.
