Listen to Kunqu Opera, the ‘ancestor of all operas.’ Kunqu Opera is an ancient Chinese operatic singing style, one of the oldest forms of traditional Chinese opera, and a treasure of Han Chinese traditional culture, especially in the art of opera, referred to as a ‘lantern flower’ in the garden of a hundred flowers. The lyrics are elegant, the tunes gentle, and the performances delicate. In 2006, it was included in the first batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list. Appreciate the ‘soft language of Wu’ Suzhou Pingtan: ‘A drop of water piercing through time / Delicate fingers / Gently strumming the tenderness of the strings / Threads of thoughts woven into smooth silk / Drips of emotion brewing into intoxicating wine / The soft language of Wu / Gathered into a gentle stream / …;…; Passing through the ancient streets and alleys of Suzhou / Like the delicacy of a single drop of water / Slowly dripping from the simple tiles / Piercing the frozen layers deep in time / Transformed into a melody of Suzhou Pingtan / Resonating with each dry heart.’ As the poem expresses, the sound of Pingtan is delicate and gentle, ‘a hundred turns of spring orioles, with lingering notes.’ In 2006, it was selected for the intangible cultural heritage list, join the editor in experiencing the baptism of a culture that has been passed down for thousands of years.

Visit the ‘private garden’ Mokery Garden: ‘Suzhong Mokery Garden is hidden in the city, dense and sparse always as a painting, high and low always as a view, a typical Jiangnan garden. In July 2018, Mokery Garden was included in the series of Suzhou gardens by the Suzhou municipal government, becoming one of the hundred gardens. It has a long history, with the Four Talents of the Ming Dynasty writing and painting here, and later as the site of the Qing school…;…; Trace its life, the story is long, waiting for you to savor.’
Make a ‘Auspicious and如意’ sachet. ‘What does the green child hold? The bright moon and sachet.’ Since ancient times, sachets have implied health and beauty. Here, together with Suzhou girls, DIY a sachet of your own design and matching. Tip: Sachets can be taken away. Take away a ‘fragrant and overflowing’ fragrant wooden fan. A simple handicraft.
