Mufu Mountain

Mufu Mountain, spanning the northern end of Gulou District and the western end of Qixia District in Nanjing City, is a hilly mountain range located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. It starts from Shang Yuan Gate in the west and extends to Yan Zi Jiao in the east, with a length of about 5.5 kilometers. The main peak, Lao Mountain, reaches a height of 190 meters. It is said that when Emperor Yuan of Jin, Sima Rui, crossed the river, Wang Dao set up his military headquarters here, hence the name Mufu Mountain. Due to the abundance of stones on the mountain, it has historically been known as Limestone Mountain and White Stone Mountain.
The undulating ridges of Mufu Mountain offer a panoramic view of the sky and the Yangtze River’s waters rushing forward at its base. During the Qing Dynasty, there were forty-eight scenic spots in Jinling, and Mufu Mountain alone boasts six of them: Mufu Ascension, Damo Ancient Cave, Yongji River Flow, Hua Long Li Di, Jia Shan Wen Jing, and Yan Jiao Sunset.
