Nanfang’ao hosts three fishing ports, with ‘Nanfang’ao Fishing Port’ being one of the earliest developed. Opposite the port, the Nantian Palace serves as the local center of faith. At the bottom of Nanfang’ao Fishing Port, there are numerous stir-fry shops and seafood stores where the public can savor the freshest marine delicacies. The ‘Neiwan Fishing Port’, being the smallest among the three, comes alive every day from 3 PM to 5 PM with fish vendors from various places selling their catches in the market, allowing tourists to join in and purchase fresh seafood. The third fishing port, in contrast to the first two bustling fish markets, is quieter, currently serving as a berth for large-scale encircling net fishing boats and ocean-going vessels. Apart from the abundant fishery development, the coral processing industry once thrived in this small fishing port but gradually declined due to overharvesting. However, several jewelry coral shops still line the port road, offering a dazzling array of fine selections for tourists. The Nanfang’ao Cross-Harbor Bridge has been a pivotal development for Nanfang’ao, with the urban area forming around the docks. Previously, traveling from the north shore to the south shore required a significant detour. However, since the completion of the arc-shaped cross-sea bridge in 1998, which stands as a single-beam suspension steel bridge in Asia, the white bridge body and its minimalist design span the fishing port’s shipping channel. Nanfang’ao has since formed a circular shape, allowing vehicles to travel directly around the city, greatly facilitating residents and tourists. The cross-sea bridge has also become a tourist attraction and a source of local pride. The Nantian Palace Mazu Temple is a natural fishing port where residents primarily engage in fishing. In 1946, out of gratitude for Mazu’s divine intervention, the residents began planning the construction of the Nantian Palace Mazu Temple in December 1950, completed the main hall in 1952, and saw the entire temple completed on November 18, 1956. In 1990, more than 20 craftsmen were invited to create a golden Mazu statue (entirely made of pure gold, weighing 200 kilograms), attracting many worshippers and thriving with incense. The opening hours are subject to the actual operating status on the day. Essential Tips: This fishing port exudes a strong life气息 and offers large, delicious fish. Visitors are encouraged to try the local specialties.
