The Peace Gate is located to the north of the Sforza Castle. Built during the Napoleonic rule in the 19th century, it used to be part of the Roman wall. Later, the city wall was rebuilt as part of the Sforza Castle, and the Peace Gate stands alone here. Nowadays, the area where the Peace Gate is located is one of the central areas of Milan’s nightlife. In 1807, Napoleon built this gate to celebrate his victory in the European war. However, before the gate was completed, Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. Above the gate is a bronze statue of the goddess of peace standing on a chariot pulled by six horses and holding an olive branch. The dark green bronze and white marble complement each other, presenting a unique charm. The opening hours are subject to the opening status on the day.
