People’s Square

People’s Square is truly an iconic landmark of Shanghai, where the city’s kilometer zero marker is located. Surrounding the square are the Municipal Building, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Museum, and Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street. During the day, visitors can feed pigeons and browse famous brand shops. At night, the fountain area becomes a popular spot for water play. Although the square itself is not very large, it is lush with trees and home to thousands of peaceful pigeons. Tired visitors can rest on benches and feed the pigeons. The central fountain operates approximately every half hour in the evening and continues to spray water, creating a beautiful scene under various colored lights. In summer, many children and adults enjoy playing in the water here, making it a great place to cool off. Underneath People’s Square, there is a famous brand street and the Di Mei shopping center, selling various trendy clothing and accessories, as well as nail salons and dessert shops among other fashionable stores. Entrances are located on the northeast and southwest sides of the square, and it is connected to the subway station underground. Near the subway’s second entrance, there is an underground street reflecting the charm of old Shanghai in the 1930s, showcasing the cityscape of Shanghai in the 20th century, and it is part of the urban planning exhibition hall. People’s Square is a transportation hub in the city center, with dozens of bus routes stopping on Tibet Middle Road to the east and Wusheng Road to the south. Subway lines 1, 2, and 8 also pass through this area. The subway exits closest to People’s Square are exits 1 and 2, located at the northeast corner of the square. The square is open all year round and accessible 24 hours a day.
