The Shanghai Powerlong Museum adheres to the spirit of ‘promoting the essence of traditional culture and promoting the development of contemporary art’. It is a comprehensive private non-profit art museum that mainly displays modern and contemporary art, covering an area of 23,000 square meters. It has ten exhibition halls ranging from 500 to 1100 square meters. With exploring the context of oriental culture as its core academic orientation, it focuses on making the art museum a good platform for cultural and artistic display and exchange through various forms of activities such as art exhibitions, academic exchanges, and public education. On November 18, 2017, the museum officially opened and launched two exhibitions: ‘The Treasure Exhibition of Shucanglou’ and ‘The Opening Exhibition of Powerlong Museum’. ‘The Treasure Exhibition of Shucanglou’ mainly collects the existing masterpieces of famous calligraphers and painters of modern and contemporary times across the country. As a permanent exhibition of the art museum, it is officially displayed to the public for the first time, systematically displaying the collected works of representative artists of various regions and schools in China over the past century. More than 100 famous works by artists such as Qi Baishi, Wu Hufan, Huang Yongyu, and Huang Zhou are on display. The opening exhibition takes ‘Tracing the Veins and Building the Mountains’ as the theme and conducts a comprehensive retrospective and prospect of the oriental modern and contemporary art that has not been fully unfolded in Chinese history, covering various ancient and modern art forms such as painting, calligraphy art, sculpture, architecture, gardens, images, as well as traditional Chinese operas and qin.
