Sanya Natural History Museum

Sanya Natural History Museum is located in the 5A-level tourist area of Nanshan Small and Large Cave Scenic Area, a tropical coastal tourist city in China. The museum has a construction area of 2,400 square meters. It is designed by the Beijing Natural History Museum. The design style and construction of the exhibition hall reach international first-class standards. The museum’s collections include the Jehol fossils from western Liaoning, which were called ‘an astonishing discovery of the 20th century’ by former US president Bill Clinton; the Guanling fauna in Guizhou, Xixia fauna in Henan, Shanwang fauna in Shandong, Tongxin biota in Ningxia, paleontological fossils from all over the country such as Inner Mongolia and Gansu, and precious specimens of unique animals and plants in Hainan. There are also priceless Hainan ebony known as ‘the sacred wood of the East’; Wuzhishan yellow wax stones, which are fine stones. In total, there are more than 2,000 pieces. Among them, there are more than 800 national treasures. Some collections are even unique in the world and are leaders in the same industry at home and abroad. Many fossils in Sanya Natural History Museum are genuine. Except for the fossils marked for comparing true and false fossils, all are genuine without any fakes. The museum has promised a reward of 100,000 yuan if fake fossils are found. This is the first museum in China to publicly claim ‘absolutely no fakes’.
