For my wife’s birthday, we embarked on a 2-day self-driving tour around the suburbs of Shanghai, covering a total distance of 146.3 kilometers. By 12:25 PM, we reached the Xujing toll station on the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, having driven 27.3 kilometers. At 12:34 PM, we arrived at the Jiasong Highway toll station on the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, with a total of 35.5 kilometers covered, and paid a toll of 5.23 yuan. We checked into the Novotel Shanghai Qingpu, a standard double room for 376 yuan (including breakfast for two). Novotel is a brand under the French Accor Group. The hotel is conveniently located north of the old town of Qingpu and is easily accessible by car. The room was small but very clean. The breakfast was satisfactory, though the variety could be improved. We checked out on Sunday and inquired about a late check-out at the front desk, but were informed it was not possible on weekends. This service level is lacking compared to other high-end hotels. However, the other services at the hotel were satisfactory; additional mineral water and firmer pillows were readily provided upon request. The underground parking lot had plenty of spaces, utilizing a mechanical parking system which might be unfamiliar to new drivers. The check-in procedure took place on the 3rd floor.
