Shanghai Railway Museum

Located at the intersection of Tianmu East Road and Kangle Road, the Shanghai Railway Museum’s exhibition hall and outdoor appearance are designed to replicate the original appearance of the Shanghai Station of the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, which was built in 1909 and features a classic English architectural style, constructed on its original site. Visitors can see actual locomotives, various train parts and equipment, and models, and even get hands-on experience operating the control panel to feel like a high-speed train driver. Upon entering the museum, one is greeted by two vintage locomotives and a classic green carriage, with a train station platform beside it, providing an excellent setting for taking commemorative photos. The museum building has a retro style, with its structure and decoration exuding a sense of history, although the museum is not large, consisting of only one floor. Inside, there is an abundance of textual and pictorial materials, as well as railway publications and badges from various eras, detailing the history of Shanghai and East China’s railways over more than a century. The museum showcases numerous pieces of equipment related to trains and tracks, direction signs used on various train carriages, and everyday items from different eras of carriages. However, what might be most appealing to children are the various simulated miniature locomotive models. Additionally, the museum features a simulated high-speed train cabin, where visitors can try their hand at being a driver, steering the train towards the horizon. Operating hours are Tuesday-Sunday from 09:00-11:00 and 13:30-16:30, closed all day on Mondays. Service facilities include restrooms.
