Shangshuwei Village is a beautiful small village hidden at the junction of northwest Zhejiang and Anhui. The village is not large, surrounded by mountains on all sides. More than 1,000 villagers work at sunrise and rest at sunset. The whole village is only connected to the outside world through a county road. For thousands of years, layer upon layer of modern elements have continuously influenced this small mountain village. The uneventful life has begun new changes, and the tranquil and leisurely landscape has been given new life – ‘China’s beautiful countryside’. A mountain need not be high; it is famous if there is an immortal. One day more than six hundred years ago, Yang Zhenpu, a rural child in the village, studied hard. After ten years of cold windows, he became the top scholar and later became a minister of the Ministry of Rites. The small mountain village became noisy because of a high-ranking official in the imperial court. Shangshu Street, Shangshu Pavilion, Shangshu Terrace… The small mountain village became famous because of the Shangshu, and the Shangshu has become a local synonym. When Minister Yang returned to his hometown to visit relatives, he left eight words: ‘Studying things to acquire knowledge, extending knowledge, being sincere in intention, rectifying the heart, cultivating oneself, regulating the family, governing the state, and bringing peace to the world’, educating future generations to form a continuous development process from internal moral and intellectual cultivation to external career completion and reach the realm of ‘reaching the ultimate goodness’, inspiring future generations to change their destiny and benefit their hometown with knowledge through ‘studying things to acquire knowledge’, and inspiring people in his hometown to advocate culture and the spirit of learning. Entering Shangshuwei Village, the asphalt road passes through the green bamboo mountains. The bamboo township scenery stretching for dozens of miles comes into view. Driving between the mountains and waters for half an hour, a granite stone archway about 10 meters high stands at the entrance of the village. The four powerful characters ‘Shangshu Scenic Spot’ are engraved in the center of the stone archway. Walking dozens of meters forward through the stone archway, the view suddenly opens up. Shangshuqian Village, located in the middle of the mountainside, is clearly displayed in front of us with distinct layers, stacked buildings, and elegant scenery. At the entrance of Shangshu Pavilion, there are cultural buildings with unique features such as the Zigzag Bridge, the Golden List Gate, and the Shangshu Culture Exhibition Hall in turn. The exquisite wax figures and inspiring and legendary stories in the exhibition hall are rich in humanities and are a visual and spiritual feast for you. In ancient times, the custom of scholars lighting incense, worshipping, thanking teachers and making wishes in front of the statue of the Shangshu at the Golden List Gate still exists today, and people are still devout. Following the tortuous and inspiring ‘road of seeking knowledge’, you can directly reach the Wenchang Pavilion. The Wenchang Pavilion is built by the Meinvxian Waterfall Pool on Zhuangyuanshan Mountain, relying on the mountains and by the water, with favorable timing and location. The Wenchang Pavilion enshrines three statues of Confucius, the Wenqu Star, and Manjusri Bodhisattva. It is said that here, with pious prayers, you will receive their care.
The opening hours are from 07:30 to 17:00 all year round; open from 08:00 to 16:30 all year round.
