Shengyan Temple

Shengyan Temple, located within the Anqi Peak scenic area, is situated at an altitude of 460 meters in the mountain recess and is one of the highest temples in the Zhoushan Archipelago. Originally built in the 4th year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1865), it was initially located inside the ‘Anqi Alchemy Cave’, which was the alchemy and cultivation site of the pre-Qin hermit Anqi Sheng. In 1986, it was separated from the alchemy cave and rebuilt, becoming the present Shengyan Temple, which has a history of over 400 years. Meticulously constructed following the mountain terrain, the temple is divided into three levels: Anqi Bridge, Release Life Pond, and the temple itself, where Shakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. The temple is open to visitors from 8:00 to 16:30 all year round.
