Shuangquan Chan Courtyard

Shuangquan Chan Courtyard is located at the northeast foot of Xiangwang Peak on Mount Putuo, west of Qianbu Beach. It was built by monk Zhenjing during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. In the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, its fourteenth-generation descendant Guangxin renovated it. During the Guangxu period, monk Yuanzong restored it again. In 1923, monk Guangyin expanded it. There are a total of 73 halls. According to legend, shortly after this nunnery was built, during the chanting of the Avatamsaka Sutra, believers from all directions came to make pilgrimages. Due to the large number of people and lack of water, the monks prayed with great dedication. Soon, two springs gushed out from under the rocks beside the hall. The spring water is of high quality, clear, cool and sweet. Everyone was amazed and sighed at the miraculous power of Guanyin Bodhisattva. Therefore, this nunnery is called ‘Shuangquan Nunnery’. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
