Yangzhou during the Song Dynasty was known for the ‘three cities on one site’, which included the Song Dacheng, Baoyou City, and Song Jiacheng. Song Jiacheng is nestled between Baoyou City and Song Dacheng, with a slightly elongated rectangular shape that is slightly oriented eastward in the south and westward in the north, and has a history of nearly 800 years. Despite the impact of historical factors such as wars, the topographical features of the city are still faintly discernible. The current Song Jiacheng Archaeological Site Park is reconstructed on the original site, reviving the ancient hue of Yangzhou.
The Song Jiacheng Archaeological Site Park retains the characteristic of being surrounded by water on all four sides of the original Song Jiacheng. The west entrance serves as the main entrance to the park. Among the three city gates, the west and east barbican gates feature a 15-meter-high city tower. Outside the north city gate, a 147-meter-long and 6-meter-wide floating bridge made of oil drums covered with wooden planks connects to Pingshan Hall Road. Visitors can currently enter through the floating bridge at the north city gate and the plank road at the west city gate.

The city gate of Song Jiacheng, which also serves as the park’s entrance, is guarded by ‘Song Dynasty soldiers’ at the gate, exuding the solemnity of the city. The city towers, which take the Song Dynasty city layout as a reference and are presented in a dual-barbican form, are themselves a fine attraction. The Song Jiacheng Archaeological Site Park Exhibition Hall also features dozens of ‘soldiers’ half the size of real people and over twenty generals of life-size, including Yue Fei, Han Shizhong, Wen Tianxiang, Li Tingzhi, Jiang Cai, and Liu Qi. Yue Fei’s deeds are well-known to every household, and Han Shizhong’s ‘Da Yi Great Victory’ and Liu Qi’s ‘Guazhou Zao Jiao Lin Battle’ are both listed as ‘Thirteen War Merits of the Revival Era’. Their stories are moving and inspiring.

The park is open year-round from 08:00 to 21:00, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
