St. James Chapel

This exquisite chapel was built in 1629 and rebuilt on the Mount Fortress in Macau in 1740, which is at the end of this small city. At that time, the small chapel was part of a Portuguese-style hotel building, and the hotel was built on the foundation of the fortress. In this exquisite small chapel, there are saint statues and images of the Virgin of Fatima and Queen Isabel on tiles. St. James is the military patron saint of Macau. It is said that he often patrols the city so that his boots are often covered with mud. There is a person specially responsible for cleaning the boots of the statue. Once he forgot to clean the boots and was hit on the head by the statue’s sword. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
