The Supervisory Office is located on Fuqiao Street along Ningbo Drum Tower. Facing south, it has four columns and six purlins. It is a single-eaved hip-roofed wooden building with a beam-lifting structure. The entire house has two sections, separated by a courtyard in the middle. The front section is a gate tower. On the foyer, there is a stele with the words ‘Blessing and Shading Confucianism’. The back section is the main hall with the words ‘Zhengjian Hall’. The Supervisory Office is also known as the Examination Hall. It is an existing ancient yamen in Ningbo and was once the residence in Ningbo of the Zhejiang provincial educational inspector of the Qing government. Here, officials in charge of education work throughout Zhejiang Province at that time presided over various imperial examinations of Ningbo Prefecture every year.
