Yuantouchuntao is the essence scenic area of Yuantouzhu. Yuantouchuntao is a wonderful place to view the combination of Taihu Lake’s mountains and waters. A green peak stretches down from Chongshan and extends into the surging waves of Taihu Lake. The mythologized boulder at the head of the islet is embraced by the lake water on three sides and stands towering against the waves, showing a vivid divine turtle raising its head in the clear water, full of heroic spirit. There is a lighthouse in Yuantouzhu, standing perilously by the lake. It has a navigational function on the islet, ensuring navigation safety and also embellishing the scenery. The engraved stone of Yuantouzhu stands towering behind the lighthouse, more than 2 meters high. On the front side are engraved the three characters ‘Yuantouzhu’, written by Qin Dunshi, a scholar from Wuxi during the Guangxu period. On the back are engraved the four characters ‘Yuantouchuntao’. There is also the ‘Hanxu Pavilion’ built on the islet, octagonal in shape. In the pavilion hangs a plaque written by Chen Kuilong in 1919. In the garden, mountain forests, pavilions and terraces loom faintly. By the lake, the lighthouse stands tall. Looking from afar, islands rise and fall. Hearing closely, waves beat against the shore. Numerous scenic spots are listed along the lakeshore, highlighting everywhere the accumulation of historical events. This is the essence scenic area of Yuantouzhu.
