Yuhuang Palace in Kaohsiung, also known as Tiangong Temple, was originally located in Shude Village, Gushan District
During World War II, Kaohsiung Harbor suffered heavy bombardment from the Allies, resulting in numerous casualties, but the Xu family remained unscathed, leading to the belief that they were protected by the Jade Emperor
Consequently, the number of believers gradually increased, and worshippers have been coming continuously
In the year of Xin Chou, due to the limited space of the temple, a reconstruction committee was formed and purchased the newly reclaimed land on the north side of the newly straightened Section 2 of the Yunhe River for the reconstruction of the temple for public worship
Because of the thriving incense, in the year of Gui Chou, another reconstruction committee was formed and Mr
Xie Ziran was commissioned to design the temple, which was completed in the year of Ding Si
The reconstructed Yuhuang Palace is resplendent and filled with spiritual energy, making it a well-known temple in Sanku
Every year on the first day of the Lunar New Year at midnight, devout believers will come to Yuhuang Palace to ‘grab the first incense’ to pray for a smooth year
On the eve of the Jade Emperor’s birthday on the ninth day of the first lunar month, at midnight on the eighth day, people can be seen preparing five fruits and fresh flowers for worship
In the past, it was customary to prepare live offerings when worshiping the Jade Emperor, but now it has been replaced with pastries (such as pineapple cakes)
The temple is open all year round from 5:20 to 22:00
