Tao Gu Labyrinth, also known as Dong Ya Cave, is located in Dushu Town, Guangde County. It is 28 kilometers away from the county town. The cave features 12 major attractions, including Tao Gu Welcoming Guests, Flowing Clouds and Waterfalls, Peach Pond Moonlight, Cave Mountain Tower Shadow, Gathering Immortals’ Painting View, Auspicious Grass and Sunset Glow, Mysterious Gates and Secluded Gorges, Fortune and Longevity Peach, Suspension Bridge Bird’s Eye View, Song Dynasty Ink Fragrance, Ten Thousand Buddhas Facing Heaven, and the Gate to Heaven. The cave covers an area of 80,000 square meters, with a tour route of 1,800 meters inside, and has opened 16 palace halls, 53 doors, 24 gorges, and more than 200 scenic spots.
Tao Gu Labyrinth has a long history, dating back to the Han and Tang dynasties, attracting countless literati and becoming a popular tourist destination. Su Shi and Yue Fei left stone carvings here. When Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, stayed in Guangde, he praised it as ‘the most beautiful and elegant place under heaven’. The scenery of Tao Gu Labyrinth is valuable for its natural beauty, with flowing clouds, strange rocks, mysterious gates, and secluded gorges, forming a unique natural landscape full of magical colors. Inside the cave, there are rugged rocks and a deep and confusing labyrinth, integrating ancient, spiritual, beautiful, and strange elements, like a fantasy realm, fascinating to visitors. On the mountain, there is the majestic ‘Hidden Gold Tower’, and at the foot of the mountain, there is the sparkling ‘Peach Blossom Pond’. On the lake island, there is a statue of the Peach Blossom Fairy, with the ‘Dressing Pavilion’ on the left and the ‘Gathering Immortals Pavilion’ on the right. Zhu Lin, a Guangde official of the Ming Dynasty, praised in a poem: ‘After the rain in the suburbs of Tong River, the idle sightseeing makes the five horses sing, the spring shirt is wet at the mouth of the flowing cloud cave, and the sound of peach blossom stream water is heard across the cliff.’
