The Valley of the Whales is a paleontological fossil site in the Fayoum Governorate of Egypt, located about 150 kilometers southwest of Cairo
Due to the presence of hundreds of early whale fossils, namely those of the Archaeoceti suborder, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2005
The fossils in this area show the residual parts of the hind limbs of ancient whales, recording the evolution of whales from land-based organisms to marine organisms
