The Wenchang Confucian Temple was first built during the Qingli period of the Northern Song Dynasty. In 1375, the eighth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. It has a long history. Moreover, the integrity of its ancient building complex is among the best in Hainan Province. The Wenchang Confucian Temple deeply attracts students and tourists from all walks of life at home and abroad with its antique Ming and Qing dynasty architectural craftsmanship and strong Confucian cultural atmosphere. When coming to the outside of the Wenchang Confucian Temple, one can feel the antique charm here. There is a statue of Confucius teaching in front of the gate. Entering the gate, the mottled ancient buildings show the vicissitudes and history of the Wenchang Confucian Temple. Inside the Dacheng Hall, there are statues of Confucius, Confucius’ aphorisms, and a forest of famous calligraphy steles. The Wenchang Confucian Temple is a Confucian temple without a south-facing main gate. As for the reason, it is unknown. However, there is a legend. According to legend, it is because the old people of Wenchang once vowed: ‘If there is no number one scholar from Wenchang, the Confucian Temple will not open its main gate.’ Later, the Confucian Temple has no south-facing main gate, only two side gates on the left and right. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:30 to 18:00. Preferential policies: Children: Free for those under 1.2 meters (inclusive); children with a height above 1.2 meters (exclusive) and under 18 years old (exclusive), with their own ID cards or household registration books, enjoy preferential treatment. Elderly: Free for those aged 70 years old (inclusive) and above; for those aged 60 years old (inclusive) to 70 years old (exclusive), with their own ID cards, enjoy preferential treatment. Wenchang household registration: Free with ID cards or household registration books. Full-time undergraduates and students below: With their own valid student ID cards, enjoy preferential treatment.
