Wenchang Pavilion in Dongzha Scenic Area

There is a pavilion on the wharf in front of Lizhi Academy, named Wenchang Pavilion. There is only a not-wide Guanqian Street between the academy and the pavilion. In the old days, when scholars went to Wenchang Pavilion, they were generally accompanied by servants and came by boat. The boat was moored by the wharf under the pavilion. When scholars went upstairs, the servants sat on the benches on both sides of the corridor and waited. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, the imperial examination was abolished. Wenchang Pavilion became a place for townspeople to play. At the same time, due to its central position created over a long period of time, it is also the news dissemination center for townspeople. As a part of Mao Dun Memorial Hall, after Lizhi Academy is restored according to its original appearance, Wenchang Pavilion also reappears with its upturned eaves facing the waves. Open all year round and all day. For specific opening hours, please consult the scenic area.
