Wulaofeng Scenic Area

Wulaofeng is located in the southeast of Lushan Scenic Area. With an altitude of 1358 meters, it is the most majestic and precipitous peak in Lushan. The top of the mountain is cut off by a col and divided into five parallel peaks. It looks like five old men sitting on the ground, hence the name. Seen from different angles, the five peaks have different postures, like a poet chanting, a warrior singing loudly, or a fisherman fishing, an old monk sitting cross-legged. Wulaofeng is magnificent and wonderful. Just as Li Bai said, ‘The five old peaks in the southeast of Lushan are like golden lotus blossoms cut out by the blue sky.’ If you only look up at the mountain from below, you cannot appreciate the precipitous mountain and the strange rocks. However, the southeast side of Wulaofeng is extremely steep and unclimbable. Tourists should start climbing from the path on the northwest side. Climbing up the first peak has a large slope. From the top of the first peak to the fourth peak, it is relatively flat, and the distances between the peaks are relatively close. But from the fourth peak to the fifth peak, it is much farther, taking about more than an hour. If you have limited physical strength, you can only climb from the first peak to the fourth peak and then return by the same way. In this way, the entire tour time is almost within 2 hours. If you are full of physical strength and have enough time, you might as well climb to the fifth peak. Then, instead of retracing your steps, directly go down the steps from Wufeng Pavilion. In about half an hour, you can reach the entrance of the Sandie Spring cableway. Under the first peak, there is a ‘Fairy Bridge’ made of strange rocks. It is especially fascinating when the clouds are thick. On the second peak, there is a ‘Daiqing Pavilion’, which means that after the rain stops and the sky clears, you can see the true face of Lushan. Under the pavilion, in the valley, there is a ‘Wulao Cave’. The third peak is the most precipitous. At the foot of the mountain, it is bottomless. On the cliff, there is a vigorous ‘Wulao Pine’. On the peak, there are stone carvings such as ‘The sun is near and the clouds are low’ and ‘Looking down at the universe’. The fourth peak has the highest altitude and excellent scenery. From the peak, you can overlook Poyang Lake, towns and fields, and crisscrossing rivers and other landscapes. The fifth peak is very open and close to Sandie Spring, so you can visit it on the way. The opening hours are from 07:00 to 17:30 all year round. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
Must-see tips: 1. Wulaofeng is the most physically exhausting itinerary when visiting Lushan. Please be sure to act according to your ability. 2. Along the way of climbing, you will encounter sedan chair carriers. You can take a sedan chair (i.e., a litter) to go up the mountain, but the price is very expensive and safety cannot be guaranteed. It is not recommended to take it. 3. Some tourists will start climbing the mountain before 5:00 to watch the sunrise. However, Lushan is foggy all year round. Whether you can see the sunrise depends on luck.
