Xiaoyu Temple is an ancient temple with a history of over 800 years, located on a small islet named ‘Xiaoyu’ in the heart of Dongqian Lake. It is surrounded by Dongqian Lake on the west, south, and east sides, with Erling Mountain to the north, and is a neighbor to the ‘Pu Tuo Dongtian’, which is known as the ‘Little Putuo’.
It is said that Shi Hao, the Prime Minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, built ‘Pu Tuo Dongtian’ on Xiaoyu Island in Dongqian Lake to fulfill his mother’s wish to visit Putuo. He also built Xiaoyu Temple next to ‘Little Putuo’ for his mother to chant Buddhist scriptures.
